New Study Proves Most Vitamin Supplements Are Worthless

Vitamin and Mineral supplements are a booming industry. The theory of their popularity goes something like this: the typical American diet doesn’t fulfill all of our basic nutritional requirements, and therefore we should be “supplementing” our diets with lab-constructed pills full of vitamins and minerals to ensure we are healthy.

However, there are multiple problems with this line of reasoning. The first being, if your diet is so unhealthy that you believe you aren’t even getting the most basic levels of nutrients every day, what on Earth are you doing? Why even subscribe to such a diet in the first place?

There is a bigger issue here, though, and it’s one of biology. Quite simply, vitamin supplements are worthless primarily because they are unnatural. Our bodies have no idea what to do with these oblong conglomerations of chemically-constructed “lab nutrition” we call a pill. Just because you put x-amount of a “vitamin” or “mineral” into our bodies doesn’t mean we can make use of these substances biologically.

The Problem With Supplements: Artificial Nutrition

A recent study has shed some light on the conundrum of relying on chemically-created pills to get our nutrition. Most vitamin supplements simply don’t work.

Why is this? If supplements have scientifically verified amounts of vitamins and minerals inside of them, why doesn’t it do anything for our bodies?

The issue is one of natural versus unnatural. Yes, there may be “100% of the recommended amount of Vitamin A” inside of a pill, but what is this vitamin but a synthetic chemical disconnected from anything natural or organic? We evolved to obtain our nutrients from natural sources. In nature, these vitamins and minerals are connected to dozens of plant-based compounds, amino acids, phyto-nutrients, and antioxidants, as well as water and fiber. Our cells are able to assimilate these nutrients because they are connected to a bunch of other natural compounds that we’re biologically accustomed to relying on.

In short, without the natural substances that connect and surround vitamins and minerals, our bodies have an extremely difficult time absorbing them.

This reveals a wider problem in our society and why so much of the population is nutrient deficient to begin with. We rely too much on artificial food. These processed products that we buy in supermarkets were never meant to be digested. Just because a breakfast cereal, for example, claims to be loaded with vitamins and minerals, doesn’t mean we can actually absorb and assimilate those vitamins and minerals.

Processed juices, bleached grains, crackers and chips, these things we call food are anything but. If the substances we put into our mouths are devoid of usable nutrition, can they really be considered food?

These vitamin supplements suffer from the same problem they are attempting to remedy. They are too unnatural for our bodies to use. They are artificial foreign substances are are looked at by our cells as worthless.

Real Nutrition Begins With a Natural Diet

It should go without saying that you can’t really get real nutrition from a pill. If you think there’s value in a dry brick of chemically manifested vitamins and minerals packed together, devoid of all of the natural substances that make these nutrients valuable to us, you are sorely misinformed. The truth is, most mainstream vitamin supplements are just not going to do anything for you.

Real nutrition begins and ends with natural, organic substances: and specifically for us, fruits and vegetables. Not bleached rice, not cow’s milk fortified with Vitamin D, not soda or even some “healthy meal” you find in the frozen dinner section. We are frugivorous animals that are biologically designed to derive the majority of our nutrients from fresh, living fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Anything to the contrary isn’t nutrition, it’s a belief system.

The mainstream vitamin and mineral supplement companies rely on the general public being completely unaware of how human biology actually works. Their entire business model hinges on you remaining ignorant of your own digestive system and how it functions. Many food companies rely on this very same thing. There’s so many products out there, even meats, cheeses, and other seriously unhealthy substances, that claim to be “healthy” when our bodies scarcely recognize these products as food.

To be clear: just because you can put something in your mouth and digest it doesn’t mean it is food. You can take a sheet of paper, cut it up into bits, eat it, digest it, and you’ll be fine. Does that mean paper is food? I didn’t think so. The same can be said for many of these other substances, which, while at least providing menial nutrition in the form of carbs, protein, and fats, they give little else. We often look at eating as just a calories and protein game, but there’s so much more than that. The vitamin and mineral compounds are what our bodies use to build themselves with. If you are feeding your cells second-rate nutrients, you’re going to have second-rate health.

What if I told you that a single organic orange was far more healthy for you than your typical expensive multi-vitamin? When you take into account that the vitamins and minerals inside of it are highly digestible, and that there are antioxidants and various trace amounts of other nutritious plant-based compounds our bodies desire, there can be no question. Did you know that oranges have a lot more nutritional content than merely Vitamin C? They have niacin, folate, and even calcium. Yes, there is calcium in an orange, and it’s far more useful to us than the calcium you get in “fortified” milk or mineral supplements.

Yet we are somewhat programmed to believe that an orange is a cheap, inconsequential fruit and isn’t really going to do much for you in comparison with an expensive multivitamin. The truth is, that the vast majority of the nutrients in that multi-vitamin will just be passed out through your urine, while the orange will be happily digested and absorbed by your cells, along with all of the lesser-known beneficial plant-based compounds and organic minerals.

This is the difference between real holistic nutrition and the fad nutrition of the dietary supplement industry, and why it’s beginning to get exposed. We supposedly have access to the greatest medical marvels the world has ever known, popular diets that “work” are everywhere, and there are entire sections of local supermarkets dedicated to vitamin supplements, so why are millions and millions of people dying every year from preventable diseases and degenerative health conditions?

The answer is that the mainstream idea of “health” is mostly a fraud.

Plant-Based Supplements: The Only Vitamins Worth Buying

Regardless of the misleading claims vitamin supplements make, there are actually a few on the market that work better than others, though they aren’t nearly as popular. These are plant-based vitamins made completely out of organic vegetable matter. While they are still not as effective as eating a good diet full of diverse fruits and vegetables, their nutrient content is more natural and able to be better absorbed by the body.

The other plus side to plant-based supplements is that they can contain trace antioxidants and phyto-nutrients, which no mainstream vitamin supplement can match.

We recently did an in-depth comparison of the best plant-based vitamins on the market, because the demand for good supplements has exploded over the past few years. People want supplements that actually work, ones that they can pronounce the ingredients of and know that there aren’t just chemicals and filler inside them.

Our Recommendation: Best Vegan Multivitamin.

We’re serious about your health and getting you the right information so you can make informed decisions and stay healthy. A pill full of chemicals your body can’t use is not going to make you healthy. In fact, it may encourage the opposite, as you continue to make poor health decisions while taking bad vitamins because you believe that these vitamins will offset your decisions.

As a country, we are very misinformed when it comes to nutrition. If it’s not plant-based, it’s not nutritious. That may be somewhat of an audacious claim, but it is basically the truth of the matter. Since we are biologically designed to derive the vast bulk of all of our nutrition from plants, there’s not much we can do when nutrients in other forms enter our body. Even the iron in plants is better for us than the iron found in blood and meat, because that’s where we are supposed to get it from.

The answers to our health are simple, it’s the medical and food industries that make it complicated.

Don’t buy a vitamin just because it claims to have 100% of your daily dose of 30 vitamins and minerals. Buy a vitamin because it will actually provide you with plant-based nutrition your body can use. You’ll appreciate the difference and you’ll be saving a ton of money too in the long run. Health care costs are mounting, because hospitals are overloaded and insurance companies don’t know where to draw the line. Health care is basically the wild west, with people using GoFundMe accounts just to keep from going into debt.

Invest in your health and it will pay off. Plant-based nutrition is the only healthy path for us, and the vitamin supplement companies are going to find that out the hard way once more studies expose them. Expect more articles and info on them to come into the light over the next few years as veganism and plant-based supplements gain even more traction, while the facts behind chemical-based nutrition gets exposed for the scam it is.
